Linux Kodachi
Developed with a focus on security and privacy, Linux Kodachi was a live operating system designed to provide users with a secure, anti-forensic, and anonymous computing environment.
Project Components
- Core System: Linux Kodachi 8, the release this source code belongs to, was based on Xubuntu 18.04.6 and ran as a live system, booting directly from a USB drive or DVD without installation. Its successor, Kodachi OS, is based on Debian 13 and is published at kodachi.cloud.
Key Features
- Integrated Privacy Tools: Came configured with a VPN, Tor and DNSCrypt, so all internet traffic was encrypted and anonymized by default.
- Anti-Forensic Capabilities: Ran entirely in RAM and left no trace on the host machine after shutdown.
- User-Friendly Interface: Despite its robust security features, Kodachi offered an intuitive interface that users without deep technical knowledge could use.
Usage Instructions
- Live Boot: Kodachi 8 booted from a USB drive or DVD and loaded into RAM, so it ran without altering the operating system installed on the computer.
Achievements
- Recognition: Acknowledged by TechRadar as one of the best Linux distributions for privacy and security from 2020 to 2025.
